LARRY HIRSHBERG

Short But Sweet

I laughed at jokes that were not funny,
wore my raincoat when it was sunny.
I lost my keys one night, drunk as hell -
Spent some time in my stairwell.

(chorus):
Short but sweet, wait and see.
It goes so slow, no -
It just goes.

I filled my nails with food and dirt.
When it was cold I wore five shirts
Hammered days 'til they were flat.
Kept crazy things down in my hat.

Chorus

Bridge:
Every time I have to choose:
Desperate, afraid to lose.
Tell me what is it, pushes me on
Sets me free, but then is gone…

A river rose through my back yard.
I sat and watched, it was not hard.
Everything was washed away -
New things grow there today.

Chorus
